Hello, my name is Lucie, and I run Learn N’ Play Childminding in Alford, Aberdeenshire.

I am a registered childminder and Aberdeenshire Council-funded provider with a strong passion for early years care, outdoor learning, creativity, and child-led play. My setting has a warm, home-from-home feel where children are supported to feel safe, valued, confident and ready to explore.

For the last two years, I have also been part of an SCMA mentoring programme, supporting new childminders as they begin their own childminding journey. This role allows me to share my experience, reflect on good practice and continue developing professionally within the childminding sector. 

I hold an SVQ Level 3 in Childcare and continue to build my professional knowledge through ongoing training and further study. I am currently working towards my BA in Childhood Practice. I also hold a BA in Economics, and before becoming a childminder, I gained many years of experience working with people, families, and the public in hospitality, management, and customer-focused roles.

I believe the early years are incredibly important. Children learn best when they feel secure, understood and emotionally connected to the adults caring for them. My approach is nurturing, calm and responsive, while also encouraging children to become independent, curious and confident learners.

At Learn N’ Play, I follow children’s interests and extend their learning through meaningful everyday experiences. This may include outdoor adventures, local walks, woods and parks, crafts, sensory play, stories, songs, role play, cooking, nature exploring and lots of hands-on learning.

I work closely with families and value open communication. I believe strong relationships between parents and childcare providers help children feel settled, happy and supported as individuals.

Learn N’ Play Childminding is mainly focused on children aged 0–5 years, allowing me to plan my environment, routines and learning experiences around the needs of younger children.
